From his first goal against Cameroon in a 3-0 victory in a friendly in February 2003, to his last goal coming against El Salvador on the 4th of June 2014 in Frisco TX in a 2-0 win, his 65 goals scored, has largely served to propulse his country to the high table of African soccer. As captain, he led his country to 2 finals of the African Nations cup, being on the loosing side each time, 3 appearances in the world cup, exiting at the group stage at each time, also winning the best player in Africa award twice (2006 and 2009). He has been immense for his Country on and off the field, goals on the field, numerous charity actions by the Didier Drogba foundation off it. He leaves at a time the Ivorian national team has just appointed a new coach to see the rebuilding of the squad. The Elephant Didier Drogba will be remembered fondly by lovers of the beautiful game.
