The Basilica of St.Abbondio, one of the most beautiful treasures of Como, was erected in the 11th century on the same spot where the early Christian church of the Saints Apostles once stood. It is a complex and symbolic monument, a masterpiece of the European romanesque architecture. The frescoes of the apse are a significant example of the blending of local and Tuscan motifs during the 14th century.
