The Bay of Plenty Times reports. Can Cr. Click Tick Clayton - TopicsExpress

The Bay of Plenty Times reports. Can Cr. Click Tick Clayton reasonably compare the excessive use of sprays on our dunes to the use of napalm - of course it can! The spray process is a slower than napalm. The outcome looks the same (black and ugly), albeit not as deadly as sprays, nor with the far reaching consequences, impacts on adjacent neighbours and vegetation. I support the restoration of the dune structures. The outcomes can be seen, are very positive and very real ... but so is the cost to the eco system, selected wildlife and some in our community who are very much impacted. There are alternatives that are cost effective and produce effective outcomes, but for these to be trialled, implemented, these must be promoted and initiated by Tauranga City Council staff. The use of mechanical removal of vegetation removes almost totally the risk to the environment, ecosystems and community. A rake / root removal attachment on a digger as a first off removal doesnt disturb the dunes. There is also an option of testing spraying out areas using a lightweight, low re-locatable tunnel house structure.
