The Beatles made their first inroad to the American charts when their latest British single, From Me To You, debuted at #116 in Billboard. Unfortunately, it stayed there, due to problems with its American label (Vee Jay) and a cover version by Del Shannon that got the jump on it. The title was inspired by the name of the letters section of the New Musical Express, which they had been reading: From You to Us. Paul McCartney noted that their early songs tended to include the words I, me or you in them, as a way of making them very direct and personal. However, it would take a massive promotional blitz by Capitol Records over the next five months to ensure a Beatles hit in America with the single I Want To Hold Your Hand b/w I Saw Her Standing There.
