The Beau Brummels take center stage today at The Box. The San Francisco rock band was formed in 1964, with Sal Valentino (lead vocals), Ron Elliott (lead guitar), Ron Meagher (bass guitar), Declan Mulligan (rhythm guitar, bass, harmonica), and John Peterson (drums). Rumor had it the group took their name, The Beau Brummels, so their music would be next to that of the Beatles (alphabetically) in record stores. Our featured song was the groups debut single, written by member Ron Elliott, and produced by Sylvester Stewart, (who later would be known as Sly Stone of Sly & The Family Stone). Laugh, Laugh debuted the week of January 2nd, 1965 at #96 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #15 in February. The single was included on the band debut album Introducing The Beau Brummels, which was released in April of 65.
