The Belgian government which assumed power just a month ago has caused unrest with promises to raise the retirement age, cancel a wage rise in line with inflation and cut health and social security benefits - moves that undermine the countrys welfare state.... People supporting the march have said that the austerity cuts only target workers while unfairly letting businesses off the hook.... Sound familiar? So this is my question to all of those who think we still live in a democracy, that is part of a wider Western democracy: How come in all these so-called democracies the governments are all following the exact same policies? Wheres the diversity that you would naturally get from supposed freedom of choice? Are you going to tell me that the majority of people in all these countries (Belgium, the UK, the US, Spain, Portugal, Greece, etc etc) have all independently chosen these austerity measures? Or is that all that is on offer because all the main political parties are actually working for the same banks & corporations? Do you really think anything would change under Labour here in the UK?
