The Bemidji Police Department would like to remind everyone about City of Bemidji Ordinance Sec 24-132(b) Unattended Vehicles. It is unlawful for any person to leave a motor vehicle unattended on private or public property, with the keys inside the vehicle, whether or not the vehicle is running’. During the last six months, approximately 90% of the vehicles stolen from the City of Bemidji had keys left inside the vehicle. City of Bemidji Police Officers and Beltrami County Sheriffs Deputies will be performing extra patrol in the coming weeks for this violation. We understand the opposition to this ordinance, especially when it is cold outside, but our goal is to prevent the theft of your vehicle.
