The Best Spot A friend of mine told me about a car he observed one day when he went to exercise at the YMCA. He said the person in the car drove around and around the parking lot, attempting to get the closest parking space possible. The funny thing about that situation was that the person went inside to run for an hour on a treadmill but spent several minutes trying to avoid walking an extra few yards in the parking lot! He had to get the best spot. At some level when we try to get a closer parking spot, its not about avoiding walking a greater distance. Its about competing and getting the best spot. One day two of Jesus disciples were competing for the best spot. They said to Jesus, Allow one of us to sit on your right and the other on your left when you enter your glory. Jesus replied, You dont know what you are asking! Can you drink the cup I drink or receive the baptism I receive? That was his way of saying, You have no idea what you are asking. Its not about having what you perceive to be the best spot. Its about denying yourself and serving. Very often what we think the best spot might be in our lives, is exactly the opposite in Jesus eyes. Prayer: God help us to know that we do not have to be number one in everything we do.
