The Bible presents the gospel as the wisdom of God, the only saving truth. Nobody made it up, just as nobody invented water. No philosopher ever conceived equal hope. Preaching it releases the saving power of God. Those who are dead in trespasses and sins hear it and are raised to new life. Compassion must be preached with compassion, love with love – “sincere love,” as set out in the evangelists’ charter, 2 Corinthians 6. Christians are not left to spin artificial fervor out of their own soul. They do not need to kindle their own fire; they light their torch at the altar of God, the Cross. “God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us” (Romans 5:5). Appearing to his disciples after His death Christ told them to wait for the Holy Spirit. Possession of the Spirit is the intended confirmation of the gospel. Christianity is the Holly Spirit outpoured for witness to Christ. Receive, in the name of Jesus.
