The Bible says that those who worship the beast power in the last days will be a churchgoing people? “The time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service” (John 16:2). From the moment when Cain murdered Abel, true and false worship has been one of the central issues throughout Bible history—and it will again be the central issue when the coming last-day conflict begins. You’ll also remember that King Nebuchadnezzar sought to force the worship of all his subjects. “You shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace” (Daniel 3:5, 6). Of course, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down and break one of God’s Ten Commandments (Daniel 3:12). here is soon going to be another great upheaval in the world over the right way—and day—to worship. We’re told that the beast power “shall intend to change times and laws” (Daniel 7:25). Well, there is only one commandment that is both a time and a law: the seventh-day Sabbath! It’s already starting to happen! Not long ago, one of the most beloved and powerful religious leaders made a very direct, worldwide appeal not for keeping God’s true day of worship—but for the keeping of Sunday. “Pope Francis lamented the abandoning of the traditionally Christian practice of not working on Sundays, saying it has a negative impact on families and friendships. … He says that spending Sundays with family and friends is an ‘ethical choice’ for faithful and non-faithful alike.” He later added, “Preserving the special character of Sunday as the Lord’s Day — even civilly where possible.”
