The Bible tell us that God inhabits the praises of His people and I was blessed to see and hear that today. I went to 3 services - each very different, but all sharing the same property - that of the old Paynes Chapel south of the GMU campus. The first was a Korean congregation pastored by JC Moon, a friend who came to faith through our college ministry outreach at VA Tech 27 yrs ago. He works for Freddie Mack locally but is the founding pastor of the lively New Horizon Community Church with both English and Korean language congregations. Then I stepped into the old pre-civil war Paynes Chapel, formerly the home of Truro Church, before it moved to Main Street, Fairfax, for the New Life Arabic Church, founded and led by my Lebanese prayer partner, Tony Ghareeb. I loved to hear the middle eastern flavor of the music sung by the beautiful members of this special community made up of Lebanese, Egyptians, Iraqis and Syrians - passionately lifting their voices, hands and hearts in prayer and singing their praises through their tears as some carry heavy burdens for their family members back in dangerous homelands. Then I attended the mother churchs service, Jerusalem Baptist, where good friend Terry Smith, spoke Gods truth with passion and love for his people. What a blessed day - breaking bread with the Koreans as I enjoyed rice balls, with Arabs as we celebrated communion with middle eastern bread and good fellowship all around. As I drove home I caught this song on the radio and it spoke to my heart as I had just spent time with a Syrian man who shared about his sons family who is still back in Damascus. He longs for reunion, yet he in spite of the burden of separation, he presses on in love for God and faith in His mercy. This song goes out to my new friend, Fuad from Syria.
