The Big Lie by Dr. Rankin Part two in our installment series titled Healthcare Reform gone wrong You can keep your Doctor is one of the often repeated mantras of this administration but is not really the truth. It may work if your Doctor is part of a large multi specialty group or an employee for a hospital. These entities have the financial means to deal with all the additional administrative burdens that are part of health care reform. They can afford to take a loss on the primary care part of the practice as all the referrals to specialists and diagnostic testing within more than makes up for lost revenue and additional employee time needed to be in compliance. The administration has decided to take the Medicaid system, which is already a mess, and complicate even more. All current and future patients will now be relocated into a Medicaid Managed Care system. If they do not speak up they will be automatically assigned. In addition to the current managed care plans up to ten new ones will now exist. As a medical provider you will now need to credential yourself in each of these plans if you want to continue to see your current patients. Who can afford to spend the ridiculous amount of time needed to go through that process? Large independent groups and hospital groups. If you accept medicaid as a solo practitioner you are doing it for ONE reason only, and it is NOT financial reimbursement. I enjoy seeing children, realize many in our area utilize this insurance and have services to offer that are not available anywhere else in our area. I get paid less, for the same service, than community clinics and hospital based groups. Sadly it appears that this will be coming to an end at some point in the future. I will still make my services available but will not be able to bill Medicaid. This is just another example of driving healthcare out of the hands of the individual provider and into larger entities. Do not worry more examples to follow in future installments. If you look forward to a homogenous healthcare system with no room for individual choice and government dictated protocols then take no action. If on the other hand you find this unappetizing I leave you with a few eloquently spoken words by Rush.... If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
