The Big Taste Test will hit home a serious message to families in Bishop Auckland as part of Child Safety Week. A series of events are set to take place to demonstrate the work children’s centres are doing with parents to ensure they are providing a safe environment for their families. Child Safety Week will take place between June 24 and 30 and during this time parents are being invited into children’s centres across County Durham. Health drop-in sessions and a taste test with bitrex, which is placed into poisons to deter children from drinking them, are just some of the sessions taking place. Parents will also be invited to take part in a Devil’s Sweet Shop where they are asked to differentiate between pills and sweets and receive advice on child safety issues such as water safety and choking hazards. The following events are taking place: Health Drop-in session, St Helen Auckland Children’s Centre, Monday, 24 June between 9.30am and 11.30am. Young Parents Group, Woodhouse Close Children’s Centre, Wednesday, 26 June between 3.00pm and 4.30pm. Health Drop-in session, Taylor Road Children’s Centre, Wednesday, 26 June between 9.30am and 11.30am. Sure Start Children’s Centres are part of the One Point service which is part of Durham County Council.
