The Bitter Cry upon Realizing there is NO more Blessing One of the more heart breaking passages is in the Bible is found in the book of Genesis, after Jacob has received the blessing from his father Isaac, Esau comes in and hears the devastating news that the blessing has already been given and that there is no similar blessing for him. Genesis 27:30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his sons venison, that thy soul may bless me. 32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau. 33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed. 34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. 35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing. 36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me? 37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son? 38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. Isaac (a type of God the Father) reveals to Esau (representing all people not chosen by God) that Jacob (type of all that are chosen by God to obtain salvation) is the one to receive the blessing. It illustrates perfectly what God has done at this time. The Lord has revealed that He has bestowed the blessing to the elect, and He has also revealed that there is no other (additional) blessing. All those typified by Esau cry bitterly as a result. ESAUS BITTER CRY CAME AT THE REALIZATION THAT HE WAS NOT TO BE THE RECIPIENT OF THE BLESSING The giving of the blessing to Jacob and not to Esau was done according to the election plan of God. The Lord reveals that this was all done exactly as He had pre-determined before either of the twin sons were born: Romans 9:10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; 11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) 12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. 13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. For many years neither Jacob nor his twin brother Esau were aware of Gods predetermined purpose concerning them. It wasnt until the time arrived of the bestowing of the blessing by his father Isaac that Esau suddenly realized that the right of the firstborn would not be granted to him. At the hearing of this sorrowful news, the terrible realization of losing the blessing set in and Esau wept bitterly. This fits in well with people today that hear that God is no longer saving and therefore there is no more spiritual blessing for them. The Lord foretold of this terrible time when the unsaved would hear that salvation had ended and the blessing was given to another (the elect, Jacob) in the book of Zephaniah. Zephaniah 1:14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. Zephaniah 1:14 reveals to us that the day of Gods wrath is a time when the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. This language fits very well with Esaus cry at the realization of losing the blessing of the firstborn. On May 21, 2011 God shut the door of heaven and thereby sealed the eternal fate of all people. Those that were blessed with salvation remain blessed; and those that were not blessed with salvation will never be able to receive it. The blessing of God has been given to the elect (Jacob); and not to the non elect (Esau). The idea of there being no further blessing (salvation) available is extremely troubling to many people. The Bible indicates that it is at this time, after the fact, after the blessing has been given, that people will follow the example of Esau and desire the blessing that they had previously despised. Hebrews 12: 15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Esaus desire to receive the blessing from his father was commendable. However, the enormous and insurmountable problem he had was that he sought it after the blessing had already been given. Just as today, those that now want the blessing of Gods salvation are seeking it after the door of heaven has been shut. Esau was rejected and found no place of repentance despite the fact that he sought it carefully with tears. This is similar to the Bibles teaching that God cannot hear anyones cries today for salvation. Its too late now. God has already given out to His elect people all the blessing that He had to give. There is no more for the rest of mankind.
