The Blackburn Fire within the Government Flat Complex went into the night with an estimated size of 1500 acres burning within The Dalles watershed in grass…brush…and trees of mixed private and public ownership about six miles southwest of The Dalles. According to the Oregon Department of Forestry…a Level II evacuation notice remains in effect for 35 homes in the Reservoir Road and Upper Mill Creek Road…informing them to be prepared to leave immediately if the need arises. Those two roads from their junction upstream are closed to all public access except for area residents. Two buildings are confirmed to have been destroyed in the Upper Mill Creek drainage. They were not reachable by fire apparatus due to in accessibility. Protection of The Dalles water treatment facility remains a priority…with The Dalles Public Works Department working closely with fire suppression personnel in protecting the facility about one mile east of the fire. Elsewhere in the complex…the Government Flat Fire was being held within its current lines at 229 acres…with officials expecting the risk of further fire spread to be low. The Wells Fire remains contained at 66 acres and will continue to be patrolled. Fire personnel will continue their suppression efforts through the night.
