The Blood of the Lamb Exodus 12:12-13 “I will go through the land of Egypt on this night and strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, whether human or animal, and bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am GOD. The blood will serve as a sign on the houses where you live. When I see the blood I will pass over you—no disaster will touch you when I strike the land of Egypt” Exodus 12:12-13 (MSG). I love how the whole Old Testament points directly to the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus. This passage is a call to each of us to put the blood of Christ on the doorposts of our hearts so that no disaster will strike us. You see, the judgment in Egypt is a precursor to the final judgment. It wasn’t about how good or how bad they were; it wasn’t about how many good deeds they may or may not have done; it wasn’t about who their parents were or how high up in society they were; no, it was simply about the blood of the lamb that covered them. This single act of faith told God that the people who lived this house were covered by the blood, and so He passed over. And so it will be with us in the final judgment when God comes to wipe sin from the earth once and for all; He will look at us and, if we are covered by the blood of Jesus, He will see His perfect child and He will call us to live with Him forever. Just like the night of the Passover in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago, it will be the blood of the Lamb that covers us; it will be the blood of the Lamb that saves us.
