The Botafumerio in Santiago de Compostela cathedral is one of the worlds largest incense burners. It weighs in at 53kg, is 1.5 metres tall and is suspended from a height of 20 metres. Top speed 68km per hour. The 8 men who pull the ropes are known as tiraboleiros. In 1499 the guide ropes broke and the Botafumerio of the day crashed to the ground. Catherine of Aragon witnessed the event; having stopped off at Santiago de Compostela as she travelled to England for her wedding to Henry VIII. The current Botafumerio is the 4th incense burner to have swung from beneath the cathedrals cupula. See it in action below.
