The Boulevard Wigan Review......Well on Thursday the Lambrini team headed off into the sunset with labels attached to our girdles saying Destination the Boulevard Wigan On arrival at the club we were pleasantly surprised to find it was one of those intimate low ceiling venues where youve no option but to get up close and personal. The kinda gaff where you feel the bass in your feet and are at eye level to the artists.First up was Suicyanide who did a belting Beatles tune amongst hard n fast songs filled with sum good guitar runs. They had a stand in bass player who did a good job as its never easy as a 3 piece at the best of times. They finished on an encore of Love Song by the Damned which went down great. Blackpools prime Punk movers Dysphonia entered the arena with a Hymn sheet ,a fur coat and no knickers. They got straight into the mix and Banny the singer flaunted with the crowd and invited them to join in and with sing-a-longa Dysphonia hits thats what i call Punkage 2013 ....the Kasbah was indeedy rocking. At one point Banny was on the floor and i couldnt help but think of the Bauhaus Bella lugosi,s dead 45 sleeve I like the theatre of performance and suggest even acoustic artists jazz up their act by playing on a unicycle whilst a Scantillyclad femme throws darts at them or summit! So the lads showed Blackpool still sells ( Punk ) Rock to the masses....Roll on Rebellion chaps, you deserve your spot! Last time i saw the Barb Wire Dolls was at Rebellion, but i was 80 feet away and safely upstairs at the Winter Gardens.......this time they where breathing on me.Within seconds of their performance i thought im either going to get my head kicked in here or shagged to death.I was as excited as Joan Collins in an Ann Summers closing down sale. This band are the most bizarely beautiful thing ive seen in years.Theres moments of sheer madness, like your watching Psycho or the Killing of Sister George, and then the chameleon turns and looks at you with sullen eyes plus a spinning head as in the Exorcist, and your waiting for her to say Your Mum cooks socks in Heeeeeeeelllllllll or turn you into a frog....( or perhaps back from a frog )........now many moons ago David Bowie wrote a line when people stared in Jaggers eyes and scored and i think i got it on Thursday. My brain was defragmatised and each shelf was infected with a Barb Wire Dolls riff.......Now if i think about going to make a cup of tea i find myself scribbling on the walls in permanent marker You are not a slave ,freedom through music .............I really enjoyed the whole night~~~~ and you would have too. Long Live Punk, long live sausage roll.....( might have been Rock n Roll ) heres the 1st of the clips........
