The Braves powered by three home runs and excellent pitching by Tim Hudson beat the Mets Wednesday night 8-2. Jeremy Hefner has hit a rough patch after pitching so well for most of the summer. He allowed a solo homer run to Evan Gattis in the 1st and a three run homer by Dan Uggla and a 2 run homer by Andrelton Simmons in the 5th inning….staking the Braves to a 6-0 lead. Hefner takes the loss allowing 6 runs, 5 earned in 4 1/3 innings pitched. He allowed 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out three, his record drops to 4-8 on the campaign. The Mets got to Tim Hudson in the bottom of the 8th scoring two runs. Hudson left after a nasty play at first where Eric Young spiked Hudson in the Achilles area trying to beat out a play at first….Hudson was relieved by Luis Avilan..and he gave up a 2 run double to Daniel Murphy which was all the Mets could muster. The Braves scored their final runs in the top of the 9th on a passed ball by Anthony Recker and an rbi single by Justin Upton. Hudson went 7 2/3 allowing 4 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked 3 and struck out 9. He picks up the win. The Mets only managed 6 hits on the night, led by Murphy and Marlon Byrd with 2 each. With the loss the Mets fall to 44-53 on the season and 20-30 at Citi Field. Thursday afternoon a matinee finale to the four game set. Zach Wheeler (3-1 3.58) tries to gain a spit of the series for the Mets. Alex Wood (0-2 2.45) goes for Atlanta. -JY
