The Bread & Roses strike of 1912 in Lawrence was one of the largest and most important labor events in history, but few people today can relate with it physically. I made this film back in 2011 as part of a UMass Lowell course ... with the idea that it might be possible to connect people to the strike through the city itself; Lawrence is only (seven and a half) square miles, and every square foot is soaked in history. ~ Bernard Trubowitz This video was created by UMass Lowell student Bernard Trubowitz in late 2011, just prior to the centennial of the 1912 Bread and Roses Strike. Guided by Professor Robert Forrant while working at the Lawrence History Center, he used the archives to locate original photographs from the strike. He then researched where they were originally taken and then did his best to recapture each image from the same spot, almost exactly 100 years later. Using a mix of photographs, narrative, and music, this video is a moving tribute to a pivotal moment in history, as well as, to present day Lawrence. lawrencehistory.org/video/1912strike
