The Breaks by Kurtis Blow is a record that changed my life. It was hip hop’s first Gold record. Kurtis was the first rapper to sign a major record deal.(no it wasnt The Sugar Hill Gng) Kurtis Blow took the art and music from the streets where I was from and brought it to the world stage. He was the first cat to get PAID! Almost 35 years later and he is playing a show in my bar in my adopted hometown. Yeah I am a little bit excited I remember this performance on Soul Train.
