The British Museum - Objects from the Central Caucasus (The Koban Culture) The Koban culture developed out of the Late Bronze Age culture of the central Caucasus, which was particularly important for its bronzeworking industry in the 2nd millennium bc. The cultural change in the area which led to the formation of the Koban culture in the late 2nd millennium bc was accelerated by nomadic pressures and influences from the Pontic steppes. The Koban culture evolved during three stages: I (initial), 12th–11th centuries bc(in the mountain regions of northern Ossetia); II (classical), 11th–8th/7th centuries bc; and III (late), 7th–4th centuries bc. There are three regional variations: western, central and eastern (Krupnov 1960; Kozenkova 1977). Read more: britishmuseum.org/pdf/2%20koban%20integ-opt-sec.pdf
