The Bruce Farmers Market “Throwback Thursdays,” currently held on the Town of Bruce Square every Thursday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is highlighting a special Children’s Event on Thursday, July 25th beginning at 4:30 p.m. Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, on behalf of the dairy farm families of Mississippi, will be working with the Calhoun County Farm Bureau and Mississippi State University to bring the town square to life and celebrate the state’s dairy industry. Children will have the opportunity to meet local Mississippi dairy farmers, see a real baby calf (provided by Graham Dairy, Pontotoc), and experience what it would be like to milk a cow. Children will be able to try their hand at making butter, courtesy of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau, and will have the chance to play fun, interactive games aimed at teaching them to eat well and move more by choosing nutrient-rich foods and getting 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Finally, since July is National Ice Cream Month, of course there will be ice cream available to the children (sponsored by Taylor Jersey Farm, Inc., Booneville)! Families are encouraged to visit the square and purchase local produce from the many vendors, hear some great musical entertainment as well as bring children for an exciting, educational, and fun-filled afternoon. The Band "South of Memphis along with David Phillips will start playing at 5:00.
