The Buddha never saw himself as the founder of a new order. He did - TopicsExpress

The Buddha never saw himself as the founder of a new order. He did not appoint a Pope. Yet the world (Americans, at least) sees Dalai Lama as the leader of Buddhism, even though he repeatedly states he is just a teacher. We want a leader to follow. Maybe a guru, who will direct us and solve all our problems. But in India, all gurus/leaders are functional and contextual. Like gods, they come when called (avahan) during a particular time of the year, but ultimately we have to let them go (visarjan), for we have to solve our own problems.
