The Burgos Wind Power Project (BWP), located in the province of Ilocos Norte, north-west Luzon Island, Philippines, was recognized for surpassing one million working hours without a lost time injury. Parsons Brinckerhoff was recognized at a March ceremony for its contribution to the outstanding safety achievement on the 150-megawatt project. Peter Austin, Safety Manager, and John Wharton, Site Project Manager, both of the Parsons Brinckerhoff office in Manila, accepted the award on the firm’s behalf from the client, Energy Development Corporation (EDC). Covering a 600-hectare (1,400-acre) site, the 87-megawatt project originally consisted of 29 wind turbines and has now been expanded to 50. The project will be the largest wind farm in the Philippines with a 150-megawatt capacity that will generate about 400 gigawatts of electricity a year, which is enough to provide power to more than a million households. The project will also contribute to the displacement of the equivalent of 222,000 tons of carbon emissions, or roughly 800,000 barrels of oil. The wind farm will come into full service in the first quarter of 2015. TATAK MARCOS!!!
