The Bush-era debt that Obama has inherited has hit home in very profound ways. Although not as bad as the forced austerity imposed upon Greece a few years back, the US is faced with its own structural adjustment measures, deregulating national parks and reserves for minerals and mining-- and this is occuring not through the Department of the Interior, but through the Department of Defense.
