The Byres This exquisite rural property, situated between Berry and Shoalhaven Heads, was once part of a large dairy farm. When the farm was subdivided 19 years ago, the current owner bought this three-acre block and named it The Byres in honour of its dairying past. The owner designed the country-style weatherboard homestead with wide, wrap-around verandahs and engaged a local builder to construct the home, which features delightful views from every window – of rolling green meadows, Coolangatta Mountain and the lovingly tended gardens surrounding the house. “This has been a beautiful place to live,” says the owner. “It’s peaceful and quiet and the perfect country setting but in five minutes you can be at the beach and it’s only 10 minutes drive to Berry and 15 minutes to Gerringong or Nowra.” The three-bedroom home is open and airy with an entry lobby leading to an open plan living and dining area with high ceilings leading to the country-style timber kitchen. A corridor leads down to the two bedrooms with built-in robes, the main bedroom with built-in robes and ensuite bathroom, the main bathroom with separate lavatory and a large laundry. A gas fire and reverse-cycle air-conditioning ensure the house is comfortable year-round. The three-bedroom home is open and airy with an entry lobby leading to an open plan living and dining area with high ceilings, leading to the country-style timber kitchen. A wide hallway leads down to the two large bedrooms with built-in robes, and the smaller third, which could be used as either a bedroom or a study. The main bedroom also has an en-suite. The main bathroom with separate toilet, and a large laundry are tucked away around the corner. Ceiling fans, reverse-cycle air-conditioning and a gas fire ensure the house is comfortable year-round. “I moved here from a little house in Wollongong,” says the owner, “so I designed the house to feel very spacious, with lots of natural light and views from every window. It has a lovely, relaxing feel people always comment on when they first walk in the front door. I live outdoors most of the time – there’s always a sunny spot to sit on the verandah in winter and plenty of shade in summer. ” The house has been freshly painted inside and out and there is a separate garage and carport designed in keeping with the style of the house. The property is fully fenced with a new fence at the front and has town water. A keen gardener, the owner has established beautiful gardens surrounding the home, planted with roses, lavender and ornamental grapevines draping the verandah. A centrepiece is a huge shady coral tree, while natives predominate on the outer edges of the formal gardens. At The Byres, there is plenty of room to have a pony or livestock, plant a veggie garden and orchard and create an idyllic rural lifestyle with everything you need in close proximity.
