The CENES Graduate Colloquium kicks off with the first session today, Tuesday Jan. 21st from 12.30-2.00pm in Buchanan Tower 218. There will be cookies, tea, and of course two presentations: Carolina Franzen s talk Orchestrating an Image: Dimiter Gotscheff’s Dramatic Work will be about Dimiter Gotscheffs work, one of the important figures in recent German theatre. It will focus exemplarily on his Iwanow (Volksbühne Berlin) and examine the way how Gotscheffs theatre stages and changes the drama. Patric Di Dio Di Marco will present Curiositas and Wissen in der Historia von D. Johann Fausten: Über curiositas als Handlungsmovens und Erkenntnispotenziale eines Teufelsbündlers and talk about the image of the “Historia von D. Johann Fausten“ as being characterized as the curiosus/spekulierer. Considering the historical context of the text and the fact that the „Faustbuch“ is seen as an abomination of the aftermath of curiosity, it is no wonder then that Faust is viewed this way. Nevertheless he argues against any stigmatization of Faust, by giving an impression of how the anonymous author is unveiling the mistaken image of the curiosus longing for new knowledge.
