The CTBTO is accepting applications for funded CTBT Fellowships. The deadline for applications is 15 December. View this email in your browser Dear colleagues, Following an internal review on modalities for awarding CTBT Research Fellowships, the CTBTO now offering funded Fellowship opportunities to graduate and PhD students, recent graduates and post-doctoral researchers interested in doing research aimed at generating new and original solutions to problems in all areas related to the CTBT. The specific research should focus on the nexus between science and diplomacy as it relates to developments in the CTBT monitoring technologies and their impact on the prospects for its entry into force of the Treaty. Technical issues that could be addressed through a policy perspective include IMS verification technologies, data processing and on-site inspections as well as the innovative use of monitoring data and methods for other civil and scientific applications. While the research projects must contain policy relevant analysis, examples of possible technical research areas that could be covered can be found discussed in the Scientific Advances in CTBT Monitoring and Verification: Review of Presentations and Outcomes of the CTBT Science and Technology 2011 Conference or in the programme for the CTBT Science and Technology 2013 Conference. The successful candidates will be placed in the External Relations, Protocol and International Cooperation Section, but will be given opportunities to interact with technical divisions for their research project and work with staff on ongoing projects related to the political, legal and technical aspects of the CTBT. Before the end of the fellowship in Vienna, selected participants will be required to submit written interim report and make an oral presentation on the initial findings. Provided that the final research projects meet the required criteria, the fellows may be invited to present their research at appropriate opportunities, such as the CTBT Science and Technology 2015 Conference, and/or publish their research in appropriate journals. To apply for the Fellowship please submit your application materials and research proposal by 15 December here.
