The Caledonia finance committee learned tonight that the Village will likely end the year in the black. With that said, the Caledonia Police and Fire department overtime budget is way over budget. Overtime costs will be about $90,000 over budget, but the Village has seen a bit of a windfall from the fees they charge for building permits and thats what is offsetting that cost. Staff explained that they originally had budgeted $285k in revenue from building permit fees for the year, but theyll likely collect $388k. Tom Weatherston said the overtime budget is ridiculous, but the Village hopes to offset that next year with the hire of two new firefighters and one police officer.
