The “Calm” Before The Storm (WGGB) — People have been altering their holiday plans to beat the storm across the valley, from traveling, to winterizing their vehicles and increasing shopping lists. It could be the first big storm of the season and people want to make sure they are prepared. From groceries, to gasoline to tires, residents are gearing up. “It’s 3-4 times busier than it usually is everyone’s thinking about traveling then the snow gets in there they’re like oh my god let me check my tires everyone comes in at once it’s a mad house,” Travis Koske, manager from City Tire in Springfield told ABC40. Gas stations were packed Tuesday night whether people were making sure they had gas for holiday travel plans or they were fueling up before the storm. “I’m just trying to gas up before the storm because you never know what happens,” Nwafor of Springfield said. Some even altered their travel plans to beat the potential pile ups on the highways. “I was going to wait until the last minute to go but with the snow, I’m trying to leave early so i don’t get caught in it,” Shamal Redd said. The Mass pike was back up almost 60 miles Tuesday during the evening commute and with the snow covering the roads Wednesday, it’s certain to cause more traffic and more difficult driving conditions. As for flights, Bradley International Airport is ready will all hands on deck for everyone to make their flights and their holiday destinations on time. Your best bet is to check ahead with the airline for any changes on your flight plans, before heading to the airport.
