...The Canadian Bible Engagement Study has found some bad news, some good news and a few surprises. First the bad news: since 1996 there’s been a dramatic decline in regular Bible reading (from 28% reading at least weekly to just 11%) and weekly church attendance (from 27% to 16%). Specifically, only 5% of Canadians report reading the Bible daily, just 14% read at least once a month, and weekly Bible reading is down by 60%. What’s surprising – and distressing – is that most Christians either seldom or never read the Bible, a decline evident not only in the historic Protestant and Catholic churches, but among Evangelicals too.
