The Cartela was built of timber as a steam powered vessel in 1912 - TopicsExpress

The Cartela was built of timber as a steam powered vessel in 1912 (about the same time as the Titanic). The Cartela managed to avoid icebergs by operating in Hobart Harbor and Tasmanian coastal waters until 1958 when her original steam engines were removed, stored in a field in Dover, and replaced by diesel engines. The ship continued to operate as an excursion boat. Now the diesels are coming out are being replaced by the original steam engine. In a couple of years she will return to service offering trips out of Hobart much as she did in 1912. Everything old is new again.
