The Catch-All Phrase By: April Khrysstil Guzman One of the fundamental elements of a nation to be a bastion of justice is the law that covers impartiality and values human dignity. Article 19 of the Civil Code of the Philippines stands as the miniature of the collection of rules imposed by the authority. It is covered under the Human Relations which is the Chapter II of Republic Act No. 386 or the Act that Ordains or Institute the Civil Code of the Philippines. It states that every person must, in the exercise of his right and in the performance of his duties, act with justice, give everyone his due, and observe honesty and good faith. It is known as the catch-all phrase because it sums up the legally accepted acts under the jurisdiction of the Philippines. It commands us to act with justice which implies to be fair in any situation that may arise. It mentions about giving everyone his due with no partiality to people despite societal stratum they belong and political position they hold. To observe honesty means to tell the whole story without covering any inequitable deeds. It promotes good faith in which it commands us of doing our obligation with a clear conscience and no compromise in the performance of duties. With its well-founded collection of decrees, Philippines can be a right place foe obedient and productive citizens. It is a challenge on the government of the Philippines to render fair judgment involved in the determination of rights and assignment of rewards and punishment. -Admin UREA
