The Cebu City Council approved a resolution, which Alvin Dizon sponsored, requesting the officials of the Dept. of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) for an Executive Session to present data on accomplishments in terms of program reach and service delivery to the Cebu City residents especially to the youth as well as plans and strategies to address youth unemployment and underemployment in the City of Cebu. It is estimated that there would be 700,000 fresh graduates this year which means increase in the demand for jobs in the labor market. These fresh graduates will be joining the ranks of the unemployed and cited data that the unemployed youth accounts for half of the country’s 2.9 million jobless workers. This has been the alarming trend that the national and local government must address through massive and serious campaign to create employment opportunities, address the prevalence of job and skills mismatch, and bring applicants and industries together through community-based jobs fair, said Dizon, chairperson of the City Councils Committee on Youth. Dizon believes that the city government should include youth entrepreneurship in their training programs through establishing linkages with the private sector for assistance such as Kapamilya Go Negosyo Na and Filipino Cebuano Business Club, Inc.
