The Center for Progressive Renewal Thought for the day: The true measure of a church must be determined by its impact on the community. The danger with that is how it is measured. The Bible models measuring. Look at how often we are told specific numbers. The interesting thing in the New Testament though is that we are never told the number of satisfied community members who sat on the pews on Sunday. Rather, we are told how many people were converted, baptized, healed, or fed. They measured their impact not their size. Of course it is clear that the community of faith grew, but not because growth was their objective. If happiness is the byproduct of a well-lived life, growth is the outcome of a church that lives out of a powerful vision and a compelling mission.
