The Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq was prevented by the authorities to address a press conference on the recent spate of killings of innocent people at various places in the state particularly in Shopian. A large contingent of police was deployed around the Nigeen Residence of Mirwaiz and the police prevented the entry of any person including the media inside the residence. A check post was errected at Ashai Bagh Bridge, one kilometer away from the Mirwaiz’s residence and the media persons were prevented to move futher, however some media persons were able to give slip to the police and reach the Mirwaiz’s gate, where Mirwaiz in an unusal appearnce appeared on the side pillar of the gate and addressed the waiting media persons there. In his address Mirwaiz described the present scenerio of Kashmir extremely grim and worrisome. He said that the universally accepted very basic right of the people i.e. “the right to life” is being totally violated and is under great threat in Kashmir, infact it has ceased to exist in the eyes of the rulers of Kashmir. The rulers of Kashmir have turned shameless and morally dead and are acting as stooges of Delhi to implement the agenda of supression and brutalization through their military might to crush the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the continued imposition of black laws like AFSPA etc provide a license to the forces to kill and the immunity from prosecution has emboldend the forces personel and they have created havoc on the lives of Kashmiris. Mirwaiz in fervent appeal to all those people groups inside and outside India who believe in the equality of human beings and in the norms of justice, who believe the charter of Human Rights applies to all mankind and to those who believe that the right to make the choice is for all to stand up and speak for the subjugated people of Jammu and Kashmir and come forward and play their role to rescue the innocent people of Kashmir from the current state of agony and pain. Mirwaiz further said that all those who believe in the above principles will agree that there is no alternative to the resolution of Kashmir issue, as in the case with each and every dispute of this nature in the world, except by respecting the wishes and aspirations of its people. Mirwaiz said that no amount of force and suppression can change that. Mirwaiz also announced that he was writing a letter to the diplomats of various countries in New Delhi informing them about the grim and volatile situation in Kashmir and urging upon them to use their diplomatic influnce on the Indian authorities to prevent innocent killings in Kashmir. Mirwaiz urged the people of Kashmir to hoist black flags and tie black bands on their arms on Friday 13th September and hold peaceful demonstrations after Friday Prayers to protest against the recent killings in Shopian and other attrocities committed on the people at the hands of the armed forces, and also demand the repeal of drocanion black laws from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the people to attend the Friday congrations at Jama Masjid where he will throw light in detail on the prevailing situation in Kashmir.
