The Cherokee County School District Elementary Science Olympiad winners are headed to State competition. More than 600 elementary students from 35 teams participated in the competition recently held at Creekview High School. Science Olympiad is designed to encourage students to explore new and challenging ways of solving problems as part of a team. Sponsored by Cobb EMC, the CCSD competition included 18 events selected for their strong relationship to existing elementary science curriculum. More than 100 awards were presented to individual students. Team awards were presented to Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy Team-1, Bascomb Elementary School Team-Blue and Boston Elementary School Team-1. The first- through eighth-place teams have the opportunity to advance to State competition; the Georgia Elementary Science Olympiad will be held on May 17, 2014 at Kennesaw State University.
