The Cherokee County School District is providing meals at no cost to children during Summer Break through the USDA Seamless Summer Feeding Program. Any child younger than 18 can receive a free breakfast and/or lunch at any of the eight locations operated by CCSD throughout Cherokee County; there is no income requirement or registration to receive meals. During the school year, CCSD serves approximately 31,000 meals daily, and more than 32% are provided at a free or reduced price through the USDA School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP). “We work diligently to ensure we serve meals to as many children as we can through the summer,” CCSD School Nutrition Supervisor Susan Turner said. “We take meals out into the community in an attempt to reach as many children as we can.” More than 2,200 locations statewide will participate in the Seamless Summer Option. For information about the CCSD program, children and/ or their parents can visit a site or call (770) 721-8421.
