The Chiefs Desk; This has been another busy week with crews - TopicsExpress

The Chiefs Desk; This has been another busy week with crews responding to 36 calls including 3 vehicle crashes, 2 separate CPR calls and a gentlemen suffering from multiple bee stings after hitting a ground hive with a lawn mower. We also responded to a kitchen fire after cooking oil was overheated and ignited, causing moderate damage to the oven hood and cabinets. On Tuesday night during the Commissioners meeting I was officially sworn in as Fire Chief. My promotion causes vacancies at Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief and Lieutenant. I have completed the interviews for Lieutenant and have selected Jason Learned to fill that position. By this time next week I will select the Battalion Chief and then expect to complete the process of selecting the Assistant Chief by the end of day Monday October 6th. All of these positions are being filled in house and the result will be that one shift will continue to be short one firefighter. Unfortunately, the budget does not look like we will be able to hire that position in 2015. More on that in later posts. Next Saturday morning we will be hosting an Open House at the Key Center fire station from 8:00 until noon. We are going to dedicate the search and rescue prop behind the fire station at 11:00. It should be a great day and we look forward to seeing you. As we begin the transition to fall and winter, this is a great time to have your chimney cleaned before you start using it regularly. Chimney fires can cause cracking of the chimney liner and fire can extend into the attic space and result in devastating fire damage. Attic fires are very difficult to fight so prevention is the best medicine. With the Seahawks off this weekend I must say, GO MARINERS! Guy R. Allen - Fire Chief
