The Chiefs Desk; We had another rather busy week which included the unusual vehicle-vs-pedestrian collision which resulted in the death of a 53 year old man. The truck that hit him fled the scene and then crashed into a tree about a mile down the road. The female driver was extricated and transported with critical injuries. The details of the whole incident are still unclear but PC Sheriff deputies were investigating. We also responded to 3 separate brush and grass fires, not including the big 3-4 acre fire last Friday morning. Again, a reminder that the burn ban remains in effect due to unusual dry conditions. I know its September and we normally have enough rain by now to lift the ban, but so far it has not rained enough. I got to spend some time today with my wifes work group, Pickett Property Management, assisting with the Habitat for Humanity home building projects in Port Orchard. It was a great opportunity to help others and learn some new skills. And, plan on coming to our Open House on October 4th from 8:00 to noon at the Key Center fire station. We will have a pancake breakfast, information tables, the Ashes will have their baked goods out and we will be dedicating the training prop behind the fire station at 11:00. Its a great stop along the Farm Tour that day. Until next week. GO HAWKS! Guy R. Allen - Fire Chief
