The Church in its wisdom calls tomorrow, “The Second Sunday of Easter” and not the “Second Sunday after Easter.” That simple but significant designation means that the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus continues unbroken for the seven week season and in truth throughout the remainder of time. Jesus’ conquering of death and the grave was such a significant event that the first day of the week replaced the seventh day of the week for God’s people to worship. It was the beginning of a new order, a new creation and a new era in the God-man relationship. No matter how low the powers of living in this fallen world bring us, no matter how much the Devil and our flesh beat on us, when we gather as the bride of Christ and come into His presence we are resurrected and begin anew once more in His strength and grace.
