The City Council of Columbia, South Carolina, has approved a "plan" for homeless residents which removes them from the downtown business district, segregates them to a shelter far away, confines them to shelter premises, and increases police enforcement against them. "Columbia’s move mirrors an unfortunate trend sweeping cities across the country: #criminalizing #homelessness. Already this year, cities as disparate as Miami and Tampa to Palo Alto have passed various ordinances making it virtually illegal to be #homeless inside city limits."
