The City Secretary’s office of the City of Lucas has received an Application for Local Option Election Petition to legalize the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption within the City. A political action committee that is identified as the Lucas Committee for Economic Growth has been calling residents and going door to door for the purpose of soliciting signatures/support for the election petition to call for a local option election. This committee was formed by a group of private citizens. The City of Lucas takes no formal position for or against the petition for a local option election. If the petition is presented to the City Secretary and the petition meets the requirement set out under the Texas Election Code, the City Council will call for an election on the issue to legalize the sale of beer and wine for off premise consumption within the City. Additionally, the committee has been making phone calls to residents and one of the individuals making the phone calls identifies herself as Rebecca. Please be advised that this individual is not Mayor Rebecca Mark.
