The City of Alton is beginning the construction of a sewer replacement project on College Avenue near Alton Middle School (in front of the Annex Building) this Monday, January 19. Depending on the route you take to school, this could lengthen your commute so please plan accordingly. College Avenue near Alton Middle School will be closed to traffic throughout the duration of the project. This is estimated to last 30 days but possibly less. We would like to point out the detour route that will be in effect. Drivers will now use Rock Springs Drive to Brown Street to Washington Avenue. Please use caution near the construction project. Throughout this project, access to the parking lots of Alton Middle School will remain open. Bus drop off and pick up procedures will remain the same. However if your child rides the bus, they may arrive home a little later than normal due to the detours. Cars exiting the AMS parking lot will be allowed to turn left (East) on College Avenue or exit out the back (North) during student drop-off and/or pick-up. During construction, cars will not be permitted to turn right (West towards Rock Springs Park) from the parking lot. Students walking home via College Avenue will need to use caution and avoid the project site. Student announcements will be made and dismissal supervision adjusted to ensure added caution.
