The City of Boston has signed a contract with the Olympics that promises to restrict its employees -- theoretically ranging from teachers and firefighters to elected city council members -- from making public statements critical of the Olympics. A gag order of this kind is clearly illegal and unenforceable, but in its sheer stupidity threatens to do a lot of damage to the reputation of both the city and the Olympics for even seeking such an anti-democratic restriction.
