The City of Boston is in the planning phase of redesigning - TopicsExpress

The City of Boston is in the planning phase of redesigning Commonwealth Ave between Packards Corner and the BU Bridge. As per business as usual, they have opted to do this in a way that narrows the sidewalks, widens vehicle travel lanes, and makes no improvements whatsoever to the existing pedestrian or bicycle facilities even though this stretch of road accounted for a substantial portion of bicycle fatalities in Boston between 2010 and 2012 AND the fact that there is a TON of room on that road to make major improvements without jeopardizing parking or traffic capacity (because naturally bicyclist/pedestrian lives are actually worth slightly less than free parking). Sign this petition to request that the city include actual, separated cycle tracks in the new design for Commonwealth Avenue... PS. If I tagged you its because a) you live around here and b) I feel like theres a significant chance that you actually give a shit about this enough to sign it, so dont think that Im just spamming everyone I know. Also, there are many such projects under consideration right now but this is probably the one that has the biggest potential impact for quality of bicycling life in Boston right now. Also, it will probably impact residents of Cambridgeport as well.
