The City of Issaquah has purchased a new piece by Shift member Ed McCarthy for a prominent outdoor location near one of their parks. The 14 foot high, 220 lb. sculpture, titled “Wing on Wing” is composed of steel and enamel paint. McCarthy combines a swirling vortex of swallows taking wing with an architectural column, creating a totem of sorts. The structure of the column contrasts with the fluidity of flight. The swallows, seemingly startled by the viewer, assemble into formation for a retreat to the sky.
