The City of Light I walk the streets of the City of Light, Perceiving that I am a visitor, I am grateful for the grace that has raised me up to these broad streets, Illuminated by the radiance of the Most High, Each step stirs a remembrance, As if recovered from a dream, Out of a dim cloud before my eyes, Each boulevard of the glittering metropolis, Flashes as the inspiration, the fulfillment of it’s earthly counterpart, Where in my days I walk heedless, Except for the mundane enchantment of the minions of shadow, They reach from behind placing their thick claws over my eyes, The shadow legions pour around me, Emerging from an unseen mist that chokes like sulfur smoke, Resting a twisted head on my shoulder, Whispering in my ear spells of desire, Spells of a sorrow that suck down into a deadly quicksand, Whisper a draught of sweet poison wine, Cloud my mind, Instill a tortured fever in my earthly body, Drenched in rivers of cold sweat, As I stumbled in my madness, Preoccupied with the varied costumes of the dance of pain, The dark ones reached in, The dark ones stole each seed of life that arose within the crucible of my soul. Here in the City of Light, I have come out of the shadows, Focusing my small flame with a reflecting glass, My body of dust has been ignited, In the City of Light, Shadow cannot prevail, Since every object breathes and glows, A silvery halo holds everything here in a comforting embrace, The intimacy of the seen and seer melt every grasp of ego, Here on the banks of the great river that waters the City of Light, I remember! I remember! I am no visitor. I am home. Amazed that I have labored so long with the world turned upside down, I am remembered, Every piece is put back in it’s true place, I see, I see that I am the light, I am the Clear Light, Stillness and silence, The silence blazes, All the worlds are consumed, Out of the fire, Comes the lion who sings, The fire, Fed by tears, The fire, The spring of life, At the center of the City of Light. -- gnosticman
