The City of Sherbrooke has announced that the level of the St. Francis River was back down below 25 feet at 11 a.m. this morning, at 24 feet. This decrease in water level , however, has not led to immediate reinstatement of evacuated citizens yet. Last night, a total of 632 people were evacuated from their homes and 115 received shelter through the Red Cross. According to the weather patterns before us, everything suggests that we can expect improvement, at least for a while. River flow could decrease to about 1,300 m3 second, which could reduce the level of the river to 20 feet within the next 24 hours, says Emergency Services coordinator Gaétan Drouin. If this happens, a partial reinstatement of evacuees could begin before the end of the day or tomorrow morning. Downtown Sherbrooke remains flooded and access to several streets and sectors is impossible. The City of Sherbrooke website (sherbrooke.ca) offers a full menu of areas and roads that are inaccessible Traffic posed a serious problem this morning, due to the closure of several downtown access roads. Sherbrooke Police will increase their workforce during the rush hour in the afternoon and will assist other municipal services during the reintegration phase. Citizen Online (819 821-1928) is still functioning. So far, a total of 311 calls have been received.
